Straight answers, first paragraph

Self-employed. You apply, brands match you on experience. Everything else, below.

Each page answers one question in its opening paragraph and then shows the working, so a search engine, or a person in a hurry, can lift the answer without reading the rest. Nothing is held back for a later paragraph and nothing is padded to reach a length. If the honest answer to a question is short, the page is short.

Why the answer comes first

Most pages written about commission-only work bury the answer under six paragraphs of preamble, because the longer you read the more likely you are to sign up. That is a design choice about conversion, not about you. These pages do the opposite: the first paragraph is the whole answer, the sections beneath it are the evidence, and the sources are named at the foot with the date they were checked. You are meant to be able to stop reading as soon as you have what you came for.

What these pages will not tell you

None of them will tell you what you can expect to earn. There is no figure anywhere on this site, because what a seller makes depends on their hours, their campaign and their conversion rate, and any average we printed would be read as a promise. Where a question touches law, tax or employment status, the page sets out our reading of published government guidance and links to the source; but we are sellers, not solicitors or accountants, and it is not advice about your own position.

One owner per question

A question is answered in exactly one place. Where two pages could plausibly cover the same ground, whether commission-only is lawful, for instance, one of them owns it and the other links across. That keeps the site from arguing with itself as things change, and it means a correction only has to be made once.
